Microsoft Excellence Centre in Bengal
A Joint Venture of Microsoft and Govt. of W.B.If there's one big challenge that the nation is facing at present, then it's definitely skill development. The evident mismatch between India's population and its unemployment figures confirms that a major chunk of potential workforce must be trained and appointed for the purpose of accomplishing the nation's continuous economic inclusion drive. Considering the remarkable talent in the country, Microsoft has planned to set up an engineering center, also termed as an 'Excellence Center' in India. Microsoft IT India, in cooperation with the Government of West Bengal, is setting up a Centre of Excellence in the Mani Bhandar building of Webel, at Sector V, Salt Lake, Kolkata.
The main objective is to nurture soft technology skills and boost the local software economy by strengthening the development.
It also aims at fostering innovations and entrepreneurship at the grass root level. The Government of West Bengal will help / facilitate participation for the program or Associated Programs (as the case may be) to be conducted in the Center Of Excellence. The space of almost 2,500 sft is ready for launch. Formal opening of the centre is expected in about 3 months' time. This centre is expected to train almost 1710 individuals over a span of 3 years, hence increasing their earnings by a considerable amount.
