Kolkata boasts of two international satellite earth stations supported by two gateway switches of VSNL for total global reach. A third earth station of STPI is also fully operational to provide global connectivity. Also coming up are two more arthstations of STPI, one each at Durgapur and Kharagpur. In addition to this, private bandwidth providers will provide wide band internet bandwidth to the Knowledge based Industries who set up facilities in the State. Availability of abundant bandwidth to industry therefore strengthens international communications.
The State Government has launched its own communication project, which in the first instance connects Kolkata with 18 District Headquarters and some important towns through dedicated leased lines to support data, voice and image. This facility will also support info kiosks for the public.

Airport - International and Domestic flights to all domestic destinations and key destinations worldwide.
Port - Two major ports at Kolkata and Haldia - all facilities in final stages of expansion, upgradation.
Underground Railways - The Kolkata Metro service, for intra-city mass rapid transit, is the only underground railway in India.
Roadways - National Highways connect Kolkata and West Bengal to the rest of India.
Waterways - The Hooghly river offers fast and convenient travel of goods and passengers. |
